Community members, human service agencies, city leadership and advocates from throughout the region joined us at Louisville Slugger Field on April 5th as we recommitted ourselves to preserving happy, healthy families in Kentuckiana through the prevention and intervention of abuse, neglect and violence.

Special thanks to our friends and colleagues at Kosair Charities, Kentucky Youth Advocates and University of Louisville School of Medicine for helping us to put together our most successful rally yet!

Darkness to Light Trainings

Darkness to Light is a national training curriculum that teachers adults the prevalence of abuse and how to properly prevent and report it. Through discussion, workbook activities and videosegment, attendees leave with a much better grasp of the scope of the problem and how to better protect our community’s children.

Training is free and open to adults. 1 session per person. Attendees must register in advance. For questions, or to register for a training, contact Jaime Thompson at 584-8505 ext 218 or jthompson@famchildplace.org.

Meyzeek Middle School Student Receives Scholarship to Attend D.C.Summit

Louisville, KY (February 29, 2012) – America’s Promise Alliance will host its 2012 “Building a Grand Nation Summit” March 18-21 inWashington, D.C.. Among those in attendance will be Meyzeek Middle School student Blair Taylor. Taylor was one of 54 students selected from a nationwide list of applicants to receive a scholarship for the summit. At just 14, Taylor was one of the youngest to receive the scholarship

The summit highlights a multi-year campaign to curb high school drop-out rates and improve college readiness. Attendees will hear about local and regional efforts to increase graduation rates and take part in relevant discussion.

Among her many areas of school and community involvement, Taylor takes part in Meyzeek’s CLASP program. CLASP, an initiative of Family & Children’s Place, is an afterschool program that works with students in areas of academic success, character building and community engagement. Robert Fenwick, a Family & Children’s Place staff member, nominated Taylorand was not the least bit surprised to hear ofTaylor’s achievement. “I nominated Blair because of her positive attitude, tenacity and willingness to learn. This conference is a great opportunity for her to further develop her potential as a future leader in this community.”

This year marks the silver anniversary of our annual Caper, and we are pulling out all of the stops! We will once again feature local food and desserts from various Louisville restaurants, nearly 300 items up for silent auction, a live auction, entertainment, prizes and more!
