Students enjoying PAL Coalition Community Center

In September, the PAL Coalition, an initiative of Family & Children’s Place, opened a community center at Lynnhurst United Church of Christ in Southwest Louisville. There they can get homework help, study, learn about advocacy and play games in the gym, basketball, board games and the like. Since opening, students have shown up in increasing numbers, which delights the PAL team, volunteers and others supporting the center’s operation. Results have been both exciting and positive, and […]

She’s been a Monday-Tuesday fixture here since April, and plans to be around for a long time. “I saw something in the paper about the agency and thought, ‘I worked with seniors for nine years before retiring, so it’s time to turn it around and work with children, because they are what it’s all […]

Prayers for the work ahead for our children

By Marian Wright Edelman for Child Watch: This has been a trying year for so many children in America — confused, consumed by and afraid of the intolerance, hatred and anger of adults. How do we keep the promises we have made to our children? How do we make a better America that values each and every child, regardless of skin color, faith, gender, sexual orientation, disability or immigration status? How do we remind our political leaders with unwavering clarity that every child is sacred and that God did not make two classes of children? This is not a time […]
