These young professionals have taken the initiative to get involved in creating a safe, happy and healthy community for children and families. Aaron’s Story

In November of 2019, Aaron found himself in the worst position possible. He had lost custody of his child and was in jail on drug charges. While waiting for his hearing, he vowed to change his life and build a relationship with his child. As part of his release, he was assigned a case manager to help him get back on his feet. Through his own request, he was connected with a social worker who laid out a plan to help him see and ultimately regain custody of his child. That summer, he started supervised visitation. Olivia’s Story

In 2019, Olivia was both excited and terrified about the prospect of raising her newborn baby. In her doctor’s office, she found a flyer about the HANDS program and enrolled. Through in-home visits with a Parent Visitor, Olivia learned how to be the best mother she could be and gained confidence in her new role. By 2021, Olivia’s situation had changed and she found herself pregnant with another child after suffering a miscarriage previously. Through funding reserved for “Council-designated priorities” in the Mayor’s proposed budget, Family & Children’s Place received a $33,100 grant approved by the Louisville Metro Council’s Budget Committee. For 138 years, Family & Children’s Place has been working to build communities where children are safe, families are strong, and child victims of abuse and neglect become children again. Programs focus on the most vulnerable children while aiming for the safety and well-being of all children. 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant Award

Family & Children’s Place, in partnership with Meyzeek Middle School and Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) is proud to be a recipient of a 21st Century Community Learning Center (21CCLC) grant in the amount of $675,000 over 5 years! 21CCLC is a federally-funded education program administered by the sates for afterschool programs. Programming will run for a minimum of 30 weeks during the school year and for 2 weeks over the summer. Family & Children’s Place and JCPS receive $675,000 grant to expand out of school time programming (LOUISVILLE, Ky. Dana’s Story

When Dana* was 19, she found out she was pregnant and gave birth to her baby. Unfortunately, her son was removed from her care at birth due to her substance use, but Dana worked with a social worker immediately and after five months was referred to Family & Children’s Place’s supervised visitation program.
